ABOUT THE FORUM
Egypt has a rich history of gold mining dating back to the Pharaonic era but has only produced one commercial gold mine in modern times, Sukari. The North African country’s Eastern Desert is primed to become the next big exploration target for global mining companies, with its wealth of untapped minerals and precious metals waiting to be explored. Increasing exploration efforts will therefore be the foundation for producing commercial discoveries and establishing the industry as a substantial contributor to its economy. As a result, the Egyptian government has launched a series of bid rounds over the last year, awarding licenses to domestic and international businesses for gold and metal mining exploration projects.
With ambitions to establish itself as a world-class trading hub for minerals and metals by 2040, the country aims to develop a green mining valuechain based on sustainable and environmentally responsible mining practices.
Hosted by the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources and supported by the Egyptian Mineral Resources Authority (EMRA), the Egypt Mining Forum (EMF) is set to take place from 16-17 July 2024 in Cairo.
Held under the theme ‘Building upon 120 years of geological discoveries for a decarbonised and sustainable future’ the Forum will drive the conversations on investment, policies and licensing, exploration, exploitation, technology adoption, plus human and infrastructure capacity building across the entire mining and minerals value chain to deliver the industry’s commitment to a more sustainable climate-conscious future.
