2026 STRATEGIC CONFERENCE
ABOUT THE STRATEGIC CONFERENCE
Egypt’s mining story is one of the world’s oldest, dating back to predynastic times, with active mining beginning around 3000 BC. Today, that history is entering a new chapter as Egypt works to unlock its mineral wealth and increase mining’s contribution to 6% of national GDP.
Positioned within the Arabian-Nubian Shield, a mineral-rich belt across northeast Africa and the Arabian Peninsula, Egypt holds gold, copper, phosphate, iron ore, kaolin, silica sand, sulphur and critical minerals. With large areas still underexplored, the country’s rich geology presents significant potential for new mineral discoveries, supported by growing efforts to expand geological data and de-risk exploration.
Egypt’s infrastructure and energy base provide a strong foundation for mining operations, supporting an efficient and accessible operating environment. Direct access to the Mediterranean and Red Sea, the Suez Canal, extensive road networks, major economic zones, and reliable, clean and affordable energy reinforce the country’s position as a competitive jurisdiction for mining and downstream industries.
Alongside these advantages, reforms to licensing, fiscal terms, fees, multi-commodity permits, one-stop-shop services and institutional capacity are establishing a more modern mining framework, giving investors clearer structures to govern both the exploration and exploitation phases, while bringing Egypt’s mining sector more closely in line with international practices.
Building on this progress, the Strategic Conference brings together policymakers, investors, mining companies, exploration experts and industry leaders to examine the new business and project opportunities emerging across Egypt’s mining sector and the wider Arabian-Nubian Shield, with participants gaining insights into:
- Egypt’s new mining reforms and investment framework
- Arabian-Nubian Shield geology and mineral potential
- Critical minerals, base metals and Egypt’s role in global value chains
- Downstream mineral processing and industrial development
- New exploration opportunities for junior mining companies
- Moving from mineral discovery to mine development
